How do you define SUCCESS? Most people you approach on any street around the world won’t agree on the definition or be able to clearly articulate what success means to them personally.
The most common responses often includes some level of material wealth, educational achievements, career, family, health or happiness. For most of my adult life, this is how I defined success, in fact, I was obsessed with achieving worldly success and was prepared to do anything to achieve it. However, after the Lord grabbed my heart, and started the process of transforming my mind, I adopted a new definition. For me personally, success simply serves as the acronym S.U.C.C.E.S.S:
-
Surrendered Unto the Cross of Christ in Eternal Service and Sanctification.
So that’s it. After pursuing the illusive success mirage my way for nearly 30+ years, I have finally achieved it and it is pretty much the opposite of what I was expecting, but it is simply awesome, Amen. The sweetness of a kingdom purpose, Christ centered success far outweighs the delusional, worldly success I was blindly striving for all those years. It’s interesting that my old-self perception of success is as far from my new-self perception of success as the east is from the west.
As corny as it sounds, the love, peace, and joy I am privileged to experience now does transcend all understanding. Truly a gift to be saved, regenerated and born again as new creations as a fellow pilgrim with other Christ followers serving the master of the universe with our lives. As an army of one, marching on this path of sanctification, serving alongside one another and successfully accomplishing our assignments from Heaven, be encouraged that we’re here for you along the way.
It’s interesting that each of the disciples that we read about in the Bible were fellow entrepreneurs, self-employed to earn a living when they weren’t ministering or risking their lives to spread the Gospel. Not that I’m directly comparing us to the early church Christians or even those under severe persecution today, but they were tent makers, fishermen, and physicians. There is something about the entrepreneurial spirit and wiring that uniquely equips us for Kingdom building. I’m not quite sure what that is but I’d love to hear your thoughts and perspectives on this subject. Please share your hear by responding to this post.
